As AI assistants multiply, our attention will become the main shortage
Anthropic, the company that makes the AI assistant Claude, says that in the future it will be hardest for people to keep up with paying attention to many AI agents working at the same time.
What Anthropic said
Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, believes that in the coming years the main problem will be not artificial intelligence itself, but human attention. At least, that is what the headline of a Fortune article suggests.
The headline refers to an “army of Claudes,” each of which demands attention. This means that AI agents, meaning programs that carry out tasks on their own, can work in parallel, and each of them may require a person to check the work, give instructions, or make a decision.
Why this matters to everyday people
It seems that the benefits of AI will depend not only on how smart the models themselves are, but also on how well a person can keep up with working with them. If there are a lot of assistants, each new “request for attention” will take up time and energy.
So it is already worth thinking not only about what AI can do, but also about how to organize working with it so as not to drown in a flood of messages and checks.
