What happened

Copilot, Microsoft's AI assistant, will stop working on smart TVs. The news came from a notification that appeared on an LG TV running webOS. There is no official statement from LG, Samsung, or Microsoft yet.

The notification says the Copilot feature is scheduled for discontinuation during 2026. Microsoft has not named an exact date, and it is subject to its timeline. The message also warns that the feature may stop functioning soon.

Why it matters

At CES 2025, LG and Samsung announced that their new smart TVs would have access to Copilot. Now the feature is going away on all TVs.

Copilot on TVs used to be a simple helper. Users could chat with it, ask what was on screen, or get recommendations for shows and movies. Microsoft later introduced Copilot as a "super app" with chat, agents, and coding tools, aimed more at business and productivity than at home entertainment.

Last December, a webOS update on LG TVs added a Copilot shortcut that could not be removed. After many users complained, LG allowed it to be deleted.
