1Password for AI agents: an agent can log in for you without seeing your password

The 1Password password manager lets AI agents sign in to your accounts without showing them your actual passwords, and you approve each login.

Agents

What it is

Personal AI agents increasingly complete tasks on their own, such as making a purchase or working in your accounts. To do this, they need to log in to websites and apps. The easiest way is to hand the agent your password, but then you have no control over what it does with it.

1Password for Agents offers another option. When an agent reaches a login screen, it asks 1Password for access to the account. You decide in 1Password whether to allow or deny the request. After approval, 1Password fills in the password or one-time code itself. The agent sees only that access was granted and never receives the password.

What makes it different

According to the company, the agent proves its identity with a unique digital key. Connecting an agent does not give it access to your entire vault, which stays end-to-end encrypted. If several saved logins match a site, you choose which one is used. Each access request can be approved on your own device. New account details an agent creates can be saved to your vault.

Where it works and who it's for

The feature is rolling out with the Meta Muse and Grok Bot AI agents. Another integration is in the works, according to the company. It is included in all Individual and Family plans, so there is no separate charge. It is for people who use personal AI agents and want them to log in to accounts without giving up their passwords.

What is still unclear

The source does not answer two practical questions that users asked. First, can you set a rule such as "always allow this agent on this site" instead of approving every login. Second, what happens if a request is not approved in time: does the agent wait or skip the login. These details should be confirmed directly with 1Password.
