What's new

Apple has introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro and an updated iMac. Both devices use the new in-house M6 processor. The company's main focus is speed when working with artificial intelligence directly on the device.

According to Apple, the M6 chip in the MacBook Pro runs graphics up to 30% faster and is up to 25% faster at AI tasks than its predecessor, the M5. The laptop also has the longest battery life in the Mac lineup: up to 24 hours on a single charge.

The iMac can run local AI up to 5 times faster than the model based on the M4 chip, the company says.

Prices and availability

The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999. Pre-orders for both devices open on Wednesday in 35 countries and regions, including the US. The devices go on sale on November 6.

What may come next

The launch came a day before a special Apple event called "Pro and tell," which takes place in Los Angeles on October 28. According to Bloomberg, Apple may show a touchscreen MacBook Pro for the first time in its history at that event. This is only a source's claim so far; Apple has not confirmed it.
