ChatGPT Limits Paid Accounts Per Device and Per Card
OpenAI has started limiting how many paid ChatGPT subscriptions can be used on one device or paid with one bank card, so some users may lose access to accounts.
What Changed
OpenAI has started limiting the number of paid ChatGPT accounts that can be used on one device. The company has also limited how many subscriptions can be paid with a single bank card. OpenAI has not yet disclosed the exact number of allowed accounts.
The company says the limits are meant to protect user security and privacy.
Which Plans Are Affected
The limits apply to the paid ChatGPT plans Go, Plus, Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500. Free accounts and the Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans for companies and schools are not included.
What Users Will See
If too many paid accounts are used on one device, ChatGPT may show the message Device limit reached. After that, the user cannot sign in to that account from this device.
The warning may appear not only at sign-in. A user can pay for a subscription, use it for some time, and then suddenly lose access.
Who Could Lose Access
The biggest impact will be on people who bought several cheaper subscriptions and switched between them to get more ChatGPT requests without upgrading to a more expensive plan.
Problems may also affect family members who pay for their own subscriptions with one card, and people who share a computer.
What OpenAI Advises
For users who need more than one subscription can provide, OpenAI suggests buying extra credits or using available ways to renew limits. The company has described the detailed rules in its help article.
Earlier, dev.ua reported that from December OpenAI plans to combine ChatGPT and Codex usage limits for Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers.
