Meta and INCA Help Blind and Low-Vision Canadians Learn to Use AI Glasses
Meta is funding Canadian nonprofit INCA so that blind, deafblind, and low-vision people can use AI glasses in daily life and at work.
What is happening
Meta has partnered with INCA, a nonprofit founded in Canada in 1918 that helps people with blindness achieve their goals. The goal of the partnership is to let more blind, deafblind, and low-vision people in Canada benefit from AI smart glasses.
How the funding will be used
Meta's funding will support INCA in four areas. The first is community listening: people across Canada will be asked about their experiences and how AI glasses can help them be more independent in daily life. The second is supporting community champions: people with vision loss will be able to organize in-person demonstrations, train and guide peers as they discover the product, and gather feedback within their communities. The third is shaping product development: community views will be shared with Meta's accessibility and product teams to help improve future technology. The fourth is easier access to learning: INCA will provide guides, training materials, and accessible resources that people can use anywhere, at any time.
Glasses for job seekers
Besides funding, Meta is donating AI glasses to INCA's program «Ouvrir les portes du travail» («Opening the Doors to Work»). The program will make these tools available to people looking for jobs or building their careers. It also offers training, but the source text is cut off, so details about the training, eligibility, and how to apply are not included in this article.
