Meta and CNIB Partner to Support Canadians Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision

Meta is funding the Canadian non-profit CNIB to help people who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision access AI glasses and find practical ways to use them in daily life and at work.

What the partnership is

Meta has partnered with CNIB, a Canadian non-profit founded in 1918 that helps people affected by blindness live full lives. The goal is to bring AI glasses to more Canadians who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision.

People use Meta's AI glasses for listening to music, live translation and hands-free calls. For people who are blind or have low vision, they can help with reading text, identifying objects and describing the surroundings.

Where the funding goes

Meta's funding supports CNIB in four areas. The first is listening to the community across Canada about how AI glasses could support greater independence. The second is supporting community champions who lead in-person peer training and demonstrations and collect candid product feedback.

The third is sharing community insights with Meta's accessibility and product teams to improve future technology. The fourth is making learning accessible through guides, training materials and resources people can use anywhere.

CNIB Come to Work program

Meta is also donating AI glasses through the CNIB Come to Work program. It helps people exploring employment and career goals. Participants receive training and practical resources to assess how wearable technology can help them get hired, succeed at work and pursue their goals.
