Gemini can now generate, preview and edit documents, PDFs, presentations and spreadsheets right in the chat
Google's Gemini app can now create, preview and edit PDFs, documents, presentations and spreadsheets directly in the chat window.
What's new
The Gemini app from Google can now create files right inside a conversation: PDFs, documents, presentations, spreadsheets and code. Previously, users had to copy the result or move it into other programs. Now the file can be previewed right away, edited, and changed by asking Gemini to make revisions.
The file opens in full-screen mode. You can type edits directly into the text, highlight a fragment and ask a question about it, or ask Gemini to rewrite it. This works for both text and images in the document.
Where it works
PDF preview and editing are available on both the web and the mobile app. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown and TXT files, and code currently work only in the web version.
The new capabilities are available to all Gemini users in all languages where the Gemini app is available.
Example for studying
You can upload photos or scans of handwritten lecture notes and ask Gemini to turn them into a PDF study guide for exam prep. You can then edit the file by hand, highlight sections so Gemini changes the text or visuals, and ask follow-up questions.
