DoorDash has received only “several hundred” orders from AI agents
Despite loud talk about AI agents soon taking over shopping, DoorDash has so far seen only several hundred orders from them across its entire service.
What DoorDash said
Food delivery company DoorDash said in its third-quarter earnings report that it had received only “several hundred” orders from third-party AI agents. For comparison, the company said in its 2025 report that it completes an average of 3 million deliveries daily.
DoorDash CEO Tony Xu said the topic is still very dynamic. He said the company wants to learn how people use agents and build a healthy relationship with the companies that make them. Most users still place orders through the DoorDash app.
Which agents DoorDash already has
The company has several of its own tools. Ask DoorDash is a chatbot launched in June that lets users order through text prompts and photos. It also has a text-to-order agent, presented in September, and a CLI agent introduced in July.
DoorDash also released an MCP connector. It allows other chatbots to place orders with DoorDash, including for corporate ordering. Third-party agents that already send orders include Muse, Instinct, Fo, and others.
What comes next
Xu also said that DoorDash could possibly advertise inside these agents in the future. Meanwhile, websites are still deciding whether to allow AI agents to access their content. Amazon has been blocking such personal agents, while Walmart has rolled out a red carpet for them to win business from competitors.
