Children's books «Pompla and Friends» teach preschoolers internet safety and how to live alongside AI
Former deputy minister of digital transformation Valeriya Ionan has created a series of books and games for children aged 3 to 5 about safe digital habits.
What the project is
Former deputy minister of digital transformation Valeriya Ionan has created the educational project «Pompla and Friends» for children aged 3 to 5. Through books and games, children learn how to use phones and tablets safely, why passwords are needed, and how to live in the age of artificial intelligence.
The stories take place in the fictional country of Maliuvandia. The main characters are Pompla, Hlei, Humka and Pikl.
The first collection
The first collection already includes six books and educational sets. Four of them introduce the characters. The other two focus on digital habits.
The book «Password and the Rainbow Bridge» explains why it is important to protect your data and how to create strong passwords. The book «The Day That Disappeared into the Tablet» is about screen time. It shows why it is sometimes worth putting the gadget aside for adventures with friends.
What comes next
In the next collection, the characters will talk about fake news, about communicating with language models, and about why the number of likes on social media does not define a person's worth.
Why this matters for parents
According to dev.ua, one in four children in Ukraine gets their first gadget at age three. More than 80% of schoolchildren start actively using social media between the ages of 6 and 10. That is why it is worth explaining safety rules to children very early. Books with simple stories can be a good starting point.
More information about the books, games and future collections is available on the project's website.
