Apple CEO: the company doesn't want to ship AI for AI's sake

Apple's new CEO John Ternus said the company will use AI, but only where it truly makes its products better for people.

Why Apple is criticized over AI

For the past couple of years, Apple has often been described as behind in AI. The biggest questions came from the delayed release of a more powerful version of Siri. It finally launched this summer.

What John Ternus said

John Ternus became Apple's CEO at the beginning of September. In an interview with Wired's Steven Levy, he acknowledged that everyone has an opinion, but said: "I really like where we're at."

He also explained that Apple is absolutely going to use AI in its new products. However, he said the company doesn't want to ship AI for AI's sake. What matters is whether people love what it builds, not whether AI or traditional software made it happen.

Will AI agents replace apps

Levy asked whether AI agents could change Apple's ecosystem so much that apps become unnecessary. Ternus replied that this could make life really easy, but creating products is a deeply human and personal thing that the company loves to do.
