KPN brings voice AI to Dutch small businesses with Mobiel AI

Dutch telecom operator KPN and ElevenLabs built an AI assistant that records and summarizes missed calls for small businesses.

What the product is

KPN, the Dutch telecom operator, has launched Mobiel AI with ElevenLabs, a voice AI assistant for small business owners. It is an add-on to KPN EEN MKB mobile subscriptions and is managed in KPN's existing app. Entrepreneurs keep their number and their plan.

The idea is simple: a tradesperson, hairdresser or plumber often cannot answer calls while working with a customer. A missed call can mean a lost job. The assistant takes the call, and the owner later sees what the caller wanted.

What Mobiel AI can do

First, voicemail transcription: messages can be read as text and quickly prioritized.

Second, after every call there is a summary and full transcript, and follow-up actions are captured automatically.

Third, a call menu routes callers to a colleague or department. A status setting controls when the entrepreneur is reachable.

Why ElevenLabs was chosen

Before choosing a partner, KPN evaluated several voice AI providers. ElevenLabs stood out for speech quality and conversational AI, which matter in Dutch, a language with many compound words and regional accents.

The teams gathered more Dutch-language data and fine-tuned the transcription model for short, high-stakes sequences. Verification accuracy went from roughly 50% to 90%. This improvement now benefits all Dutch-language deployments on the platform, not only KPN.

Where the data is kept

Mobiel AI runs on KPN's network and in KPN's own data centers. Voice data stays in the Netherlands. ElevenLabs processes speech in real time and returns results to KPN. According to the companies, customer data is not used to train AI models and is not shared with third parties.

Why it matters to readers

The story shows how voice AI can solve a simple but important need for small businesses: not missing calls and not spending time sorting them. The product is already available to KPN's business customers, and the companies are planning next steps. More details are on the KPN website.
